Vision : A church where even the youngest can learn God’s love is SO BIG
Purpose : A classroom where the children from 1 - 3 years old can move and play and learn.
Mission : Weekly Lesson Plans and fun classroom lay outs.
Encouragement : When working with toddlers, we’re not only teaching them the basics of the Bible, we can also integrate more for their development. By including developmental milestones (such as gross and fine motor skills, sensory play, speech, and social cues) in their lessons, we have the opportunity to give the toddlers a holistic time in Tribe Kids.
Set Up : Table for Puzzles. Two Mats. One for blocks and toy cars. One for Books and cushions/Soft Toys for relaxing with while Reading. Playground. Optional : Soft Instrumental Worship and Hymns on low volume.
Flow : 10am Set Up 10:45 Class Open, Children come inside and engage in various quiet activities. Volunteer engage with children and carers, chatting, getting to know them, reading stories, playing simple games, help on the playground/swing. Sit on the floor, at the child’s level join with whatever toys the child is playing. Follow their lead but also guide to gentle play if they become too rough. 11:30 (or whenever the worship in main service ends) Play a tidy up song, or simply begin tidying up and ask the carers and children to help. Tidy up the toys. Place everything (except the mats and large items) onto the high table. 11:35 Lesson Begins 5-10mins Push mats together (carers can help with this too). Sing a Sit down Song for all the children to sit on the mats in a big circle. Littlest ones can sit with their caregivers on their lap. Tell the caregivers (speak Bahasa to the nannies if possible) that it is a must for their child to join the lesson now and the nanny must help teach the child to sit. In one or two months of consistency, the children and carers will know the habit already. Sing 1-2 songs with hand actions Read the Bible Story from the lesson plan or use the Children’s Picture Bible. Emphasise with actions the (Adapted) Memory Verse and get toddlers to join in the actions and repeat (if able). e.g. reach hands in the air and say God is SO BIG. Pray. 11:40 Help each child complete the craft and write their name on the craft to take home. 11:50 Tidy up the lesson materials and return the toys and books to the tables and mats. Play instrumental hymns if you want. Engage with the children and caregivers. Read stories, play puzzles and simple games, talk with the caregivers. Let your words flow with love and encouragement. Raising toddlers can feel lonely at times. This may be the only social time these adults get during their week. Your words can make a big difference in the lives of the toddlers, carers and families while volunteering in the toddler class. 12:25 Play the tidy up song again, ask everyone to help tidy up the materials into the correct boxes. 12:30 Class ends when main service is over. Check each child takes their craft, belongings, and is with their own carer.
